Lüftlmalerei is a traditional art form found primarily in Upper Bavaria and Tirol (especially Werdenfelser). Frescos are painted on houses right after the stucco has been applied (Is the German word kalkputz correctly translated as stucco?) which causes a chemical reaction between the paint and the stucco that allows the paintings to last much longer.
The French Trompe-l'œil is similiar, but has a much broader definition.
From Wikipedia:
Trompe-l'œil, which can also be spelled without the hyphen in English as trompe l'oeil, (French for 'trick the eye') is an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects appear in three dimensions, instead of actually being a two-dimensional painting.
